Wine + Tourism: How to Play?

“Space Capsule” Moved into the Vineyard
Barbecue parties, flower-sea cycling, travel-shoot study tours…

During the 2025 World Wine Tourism Conference, on July 4th:

  • Changyu 1892 Old Factory Park opened

  • Changyu Liulin Valley Scenic Area opened

  • The “Capital of Chinese Brandy · Yantai” sculpture was unveiled

Yantai’s wine-tourism social-media hotspots have just dropped a real “bombshell”!

What to See at the 1892 Old Factory Park?

Take a Stroll and Discover the Secrets and Aesthetic of Time

  • The rustic green-brick walls record Changyu’s 130-plus years of development highlights.

Upon entry you’ll encounter one industrial relic after another—each telling its own story, like old friends long-awaited.

the hand-pushed mobile wine pump, early grape crusher, ice-wine press… each tool has witnessed Changyu’s winemaking journey.

The retired “celebrity” still, nicknamed “Rising Steam,” features a copper body handcrafted in the Charentais pot-still style. Since producing China’s first brandy in 1914, Zhangyu’s distilling technology has remained world-leading.

Nearby stands the bronze statue of Zhang Bishi (Mr. Chang Bishi), patriotic overseas Chinese leader and “father of Chinese wine,” who founded China’s first winery here in 1892.

The boundary stone labeled “Zhangyu Wine Bureau” marks the company’s earliest name; it later became “Changyu Distillery Company.”

The chic “Xiaotu Wine Lounge” invites you to sip low-alcohol sparkling wine or DIY your own cocktail.

Around the corner is Changyu’s underground vault—built to store the 3 million taels of silver invested by Mr. Zhang Bishi at a time when the entire Qing government revenue was only 70 million taels. A secret tunnel once linked the vault to the nearby river for emergency evacuation.

Above the old main gate, six gilded characters reading “Changyu Distillery Company” were penned by imperial tutor Weng Tonghe of the Tongzhi and Guangxu reigns. The English inscription below (“Fine Wines of France and Various Grape Varieties”) reflects the early spirit of “adopting foreign methods for Chinese use.”

The 1892 Art Center, once Mr. Zhang’s office, blends East and West and now serves as a city “living room” for wine, food and aesthetic experiences. In front lies the Carbohydrate Gallery—an instant Instagram hit.

Inside Fangting Café you’ll find the aroma trifecta: coffee, ink and wine.

Adjacent to Changyu 1892 Park sits the national first-class museum—the Changyu Wine Culture Museum, also well worth a visit.

Guest delegates then boarded the Yantai Wine-themed bus to inspect city-scape projects en route to Fisherman’s Wharf Whale Shark Plaza.

From Historical Immersion to 360° Wine-Tourism Fun in Liulin Valley Scenic Area

Guests wearing flower crowns boarded the “Changyu” mini-train with a ringing “clang-clang,” formally kicking off the Liulin Valley trial opening.

With a total investment of ¥5 billion and spanning 5,500 mu (~900 acres), this one-stop global wine-culture destination was praised by Bloomberg as “the Disneyland of wine.” The 270,000 m² production center—equivalent to 38 football fields—is currently the world’s largest and most advanced single-site wine and brandy facility.

  • Enjoy “space-capsule” accommodations under the stars while sipping wine

That day, at the Koya Brandy Estate, the “Capital of Chinese Brandy · Yantai” sculpture was unveiled—another heavyweight card after Yantai’s “International Grape and Wine City” honor.

Leaders’ Remarks

  • “Yantai CPPCC Chairman and Wine-Industry Chain Leader Mr. Yu Yongxin: “Here you witness Yantai’s relentless pursuit of wine excellence.”

  • “China Alcoholic Drinks Association Executive Director Mr. Wang Qi: “I hope both international and Chinese friends will visit Yantai, tour all of Changyu’s scenic areas, and develop a deep passion for our wine and brandy.”

“A Slightly Tipsy Yantai—Changyu Night” Welcome Soirée

That evening, at Tinlot Estate—with music, gourmet food, and toasts under sea breezes and starlight—guests from home and abroad celebrated new wine-friendships.
